GLT Unveils Cutting Edge Facility in Brisbane to Redefine Aussie Transport Landscape and Drive Homegrown Innovation

One of the nation’s leading trailer manufacturing companies, GLT has opened the doors on a state-of-the-art facility in Carole Park, Queensland in a landmark move that’s tipped to propel the industry forward for decades to come.

At close to 15,000 square metres, the multi-million-dollar facility boasts a number of sustainable features, making it one of the first of its kind in the country. It enables GLT – formerly known as Graham Lusty Trailers – to significantly expand its scope and enhance its in-house operations.

GLT CEO, Shay Chalmers, said the strategic move means the company affords them far greater control over the manufacturing life cycle. It also allows GLT to undertake industry-changing research and development that will reshape the nation’s transport sector.

“The entire fabrication and manufacture of our trailers, from start to finish, will now take place inside the four walls of our Carole Park facility,” Chalmers said.

“This is a historic first for the company and is the first facility of its kind to emerge in the national trailer industry in years.

“From fabrication, to sandblasting, washing and painting, to repairs, we’ll now be able to conduct it all to our high standards onsite and the facility additionally boasts a wastewater treatment.”According to Chalmers, GLT now boasts greater internal capabilities than ever before – with advanced manufacturing automation through to new equipment investment.

Chalmers said the increased product innovation and production capacity at lower costs would bring a raft of benefits to customers.

“It allows the fast-growing team to control the quality of their products in a way that’s simply not possible when key aspects are being outsourced,” she said.

“We can now control every single aspect of our trailer manufacturing and ensure it’s being conducted exactly as it was designed and intended.

“Having full control over the process and the quality of all the components also means increased throughput time and that results in increased production capacity.

“Then there’s the cost – because the facility is purpose built for trailer manufacturing there are significant efficiency gains so that means we’ll have greater control of cost which will naturally flow on to our customers.”

Being able to deliver these products to customers quicker, Chalmers said, is a key benefit, alongside far greater agility born from in-house manufacturing of all components.

GLT customers can also expect increased capacity to meet fleet trailer requirements.

“With more space, resources and even team members, we are now able to innovate more and create the best solutions possible for our customers and this will have an incredible impact on the entire trailer industry,” Chalmers said.

Chalmers, said GLT’s production capacity would now increase considerably with the new facility enabling the company to supersize its repairs capacity, and its team.
