Setting the benchmark in trailers: The Drake Group
With a list of clients longer than the average human arm, or possibly two of them, The Drake Group is the industry benchmark when it comes to truck trailers, across multiple industries.
Having begun life as Drake Trailers way back in 1958, the family-owned business was determined to build Australia’s best trailers, focusing on strong materials and robust engineering. It was on these foundations that they built their legacy.
After years of setting the bar and raising it in the low loader trailer space, it introduced the ultra -cool Drake Collectibles in 2009. A series of diecast trucks and trailers, based on their own product range were born.
Today, their replicas are now considered among the best on the market. Roll back the clock a little, and 2011 marked the beginning of an era that continues today, with the acquisition of a number of complementary brands.
Building on the success of their own trailers, designed for ultra-heavy haulage and offered in 4-axle and 8-axle variants across 15 different configurations, Drake acquired O’Phee Trailers in 2015.
A pioneering force in the semi-trailer space, with a strong brand built on values of quality, reliability and service, it made sense to purchase O’Phee and continue to build on their 40-plus years in the industry.
O’Phee is joined by Dalzell & Bagley Engineering, with a focus on design, maintenance, machining and fabrication, all aimed at ensuring your business isn’t held up by supply issues or emergency breakdowns.
Their team of experienced designers can help bring concepts to reality, bringing old drawings up to industry standard or creating entirely new engineering drawings and 3D models from a customer’s ideas.
Along the way, Drake Trailers became The Drake Group, bringing its core brands under a single organisational structure, while adding agency partnerships to further expand their offerings.
The Drake Group took on the role of commercial partner for Boxloader in Australia back in 2011. A leader in the side-lifter space, the partnership, in collaboration with O’Phee Trailers, led to the creation of the Boxloader Multi-Loader.
In 2019, a partnership with Swinglift introduced that brand, as well as allowing for the creation of a container side-loader that provides significant tare weight savings through a lighter, stronger frame design and a crane module.
The combination works with an O’Phee developed trailer. What sets The Drake Group apart from other trailer builders though is their support divisions: Drake Service & Repairs, Drake Parts and Drake Engineering Services.
With fully equipped workshops in Brisbane and Perth, dedicated to servicing and repairing all makes of transport equipment, The Drake Group offer maintenance services, fleet servicing, onsite breakdown servicing, and rebuilds.
They can also provide wheel alignments, machinery inspections and have access to HVRAS, registration and third-party roadworthy certificates. Alongside that, they stock high quality spare parts for their own trailers.
The Drake Group has several strategic freight partners too, meaning parts can be dispatched without delay, both nationally and internationally.
